Obituary for Ake Bjerser

Ake Nils Erling Bjerser, resident of Commerce Twp. for over 45 years, died on Sunday, August 25, 2013. He was 79 years old.

Ake was born on a farm in Sweden on May 21, 1934, the fifth child of eight to John and Hildur Bjerser. Following school, Ake served in the Swedish Army and attended a machinist trade school. He traveled to the United States in 1957 and began working with Elroy Tool and Die as a Tool & Die maker in Detroit and Wixom until his retirement in 1999. While working in the United States with plans to move on to Australia, he was drafted in the U.S. Army and attended bootcamp in Texas. While serving in Frankfort, Germany, alongside Elvis Presley, Ake was dubbed "The Swede" by his company. While stationed he proposed to his Swedish love, Gullvi, through a letter in the mail. Upon his return, they were wed on September 17, 1960. Ake and Gullvi enjoyed 19 years of marriage and raised their two girls on Lake Sherwood in Milford. Ake picked his lot on the lake and helped build his dream home. He moved the family from Garden City in 1968. He quickly became a man of the community and a cherished neighbor. He met Marilyn in 1981 and and the couple were married on December 27, 1986. A helping hand, beloved neighbor, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Ake's love of life and desire to be a community resource and pillar will be remembered by many and cherished by all.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 24 years, Marilyn; siblings, Walter, Sven, Sigurd, Berit and is survived by his dear daughters, Ediana (Ed) Bjerser-Sharpe and Michelle (John) Kelly; their mother, Gullvi Bjerser-Kull; loving step-children, Lori (Ron) Lewis, Steve Kemp; grandchildren, Wes Rutherford, Jessecka Sharpe, Ryan, Erik, Keegan, Claire and Jack Kelly; Stephanie (Scott) McWhorter, Allison and Kelsey Lewis, Danielle, Justin and Jeremy Kemp; great-grandchildren, Daniel, Lilah, Quinn; siblings, Inga-Gun, Arne, Elsie and extended family, friends, neighbors and faithful companion, Skipper.
