Alice Marilynn Crane, age 88, of Palmetto, Florida, and formerly of Waterford, died on October 16, 2012.
Born March 13, 1924, on the family farm in Greenleaf Township, in Sanilac County near Cass City, she was the daughter of Lynn J. Fuester and Marion W. (nee Robinson) Fuester. She and her younger sister, Marjorie, were raised on the family farm. During the school year, Marilynn would stay with friends and work in Cass City so she could attend school. She married Vern Crane of Cass City on August 23, 1941 and they were married 55 years before his death in 1996. Their only child, Mary Joyce, was born on June 16, 1945, When Vern returned home after serving in the Army Air Corps during WWII, they built a two bedroom house in Waterford and lived there for 50 years. Although they had just two bedrooms, they provided a home for several people including Verns mother, Marilynns brother-in-law, Marilynns niece, their daughter and her husband, and several friends.
Marilynn worked for Sears Roebuck in the downtown Pontiac store and the Pontiac (Summit Place) Mall. She was proud to be the first female who worked as a commissioned salesperson in the appliance department. She was forced to take disability retirement in 1978 due to circulation problems in her legs. After retirement, Marilynn and Vern enjoyed winters in Florida near many of their Michigan friends and family. At first, they pulled a travel trailer, but in 1985, they bought a new home and lived there until their deaths.
Marilynn enjoyed being part of her grandchildren's lives by babysitting, working on crafts which the grandkids sold at craft shows, and attending ball games, concerts and plays. During her last years, her great-granddaughter Peyton was the joy of her life who always brought a smile to Marilynns face.
Marilynn was preceded in death by her husband Vern and sister Marjorie. She is survived by her daughter Mary Joyce (Bob) Readler, grandchildren Chad Readler and Megan Readler, great-granddaughter Peyton Readler, nieces Diane Repshinska and LuAnn Graham, nephew Rodney Crane, and many dear friends.
