Obituary for Angelo Lamia

Angelo joined the love of his life, Jennie, on March 28, 2019 at the age of 92. He was surrounded by his loving family at his home in Saint Clair Shores. A long time resident of Highland, Michigan, Angelo was very active in the Knights of Columbus (Father Howard Council 8500), the Men’s Club, the Woodcutters and participated in many social and charitable events at Church of the Holy Spirit.

Angelo was the son of Liborio and Carmela. He was the brother of the late Charles Lamia, the late Vincenzo Lamia (the late Bernice), the late Joseph Lamia (the late Mary) and the late Frank Lamia (Herma).

Angelo is survived by Kathleen Fortunato (the late Camillo), Angela Frenandez (the late Al Fernandez), Marie Johns (Gary), and Joann Diehl (David). Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Christopher, Leanna, Matthew, Michael, Marie, David, Joseph, Andrea, Evan, Andrew (Kali), Michael (Linda), and Katherine; and great-grandson and namesake Angelo. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

On March 21, 1945 Angelo entered the U.S. Infantry at Fort McClellan, Alabama and trained for the invasion in Japan until August of 1945. On August 15th (VJ Day) he was transferred to Ford Ord, California, followed by 27 days on a merchant marine ship that landed on the shores of Leyte in the Phillipines. Then In December of ’45 Angelo went to Tokyo, Japan under General MacArthur where Angelo worked at the Dai Ichi Building working with security clearance for airplanes.

Angelo was a graduate of Cass Tech High School and went on to become a tool and die designer for 36 years.

He will always be remembered by being on “The Sunny Side of the Street”.

A Funeral Mass will be held from Church of the Holy Spirit, 3700 Harvey Lake Rd., Highland, on Monday, April 1st, 2019 at 11 AM. Family and friends may gather at 10AM until time of Mass. Burial with Military Honors will take place at Christian Memorial Cemetery, Rochester Hills.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St. on Sunday, March 31st, 2019 from 2 - 8pm. Rosary will be held at 4 PM on Sunday.
