Obituary for Anna Marie Coey

Anna Marie Coey, a resident of Commerce Township and former resident of Detroit, MI , West Haven, CT, and Philadelphia, PA passed away peacefully at her home in Commerce early Thursday morning, April 22, 2010. She was 93. Born in Philadelphia on October 2, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Samuel & Anna Marie (nee. Ellison) Candy and was a graduate of Germantown High School. As children, she and James Dominic Coey met in the neighborhood and began their longtime friendship and relationship which blossomed into their marriage on September 3, 1934. While her husband devoted himself to work as a regional finance manager, Anna remained home with their nine daughters, maintaining all of the household duties in the quietly graceful and precise manner she became known for. She ironed EVERYTHING... from the bed linens to her husbands underwear. She cooked for every occasion and rarely accepted help with the daily chores as it was her requirement that her daughters focus on their education. Anna loved to sing & dance and found her greatest treasures in the smaller things in life. She was fun and pleasant and could be found at various gatherings enjoying an ODouls with a straw. Above all, she was most grateful for her family and has left with them the undying love and memory of a strong, faithful and elegant woman.

Anna Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband & boyfriend, James D. Coey (d. 1982); great grandson, Connor, and her brothers and sisters. In addition to her loving daughters, Dolores Vidu, Jacqueline (Dick) Branch, Ann Barnes, Elizabeth Sleep, Jeanne (Herb) Vandelinder, Maureen (Tony) Zimmerman, Kathleen Thompson, Susan (Mike) Bennett and Candice Coey she is also survived by her 17 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1955 E. Commerce Rd., Milford, Monday, April 26th at 10AM with Fr. Ron Anderson officiating. Burial Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield. Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford Saturday 5-9PM and Sunday 2-9PM. Rosary Sunday 7PM. Memorials encouraged to Hospice of Michigan or St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital. For further information please phone 248-684-6645.
