Obituary for Anthony Paul Gorski

Anthony Paul “Tony” Gorski, a resident of Commerce Township and former resident of Livonia, died on January 12, 2020 at the age of 76.

Born on November 24, 1943 in Hamtramck, Michigan, the son of Paul and Antoinette Muszynski Gorski. Tony grew up in Detroit, and as a youth enjoyed playing the accordion at his family at gatherings, racing cars with friends on Telegraph Road, and working on cars. He was a graduate of Cody High School, where he played on the school’s football team.

On October 27, 1967 he wed the love of his life, Merry “Carol” Matthews, at St. Valentine’s Catholic Church in Redford. They made their home in Livonia, where they were blessed with the births of their two sons, Matthew and Travis.

Tony was well-known and well-respected for his work as a General Manager in automotive dealerships around metro Detroit. He knew how to run a successful dealership, and his expertise was often sought to help rehabilitate struggling dealerships. In recent years he has enjoyed working as a Fleet Manager at his son, Matt’s, company Your Way Property Services. He also helped to run Matt’s mulch brokerage company.

Tony was very loyal and devoted to his family, and to his work; his work in the automotive industry, his work around his home, and his work in always being there when someone needed help. He was always there, no matter what.

Throughout his life, Tony loved fast cars, fast boats, snowmobile racing, and his motorcycle. He and Carol enjoyed many adventures on their motorcycles with Carol’s sister, Marsha, and brother-in-law, Jack. They also had many adventures in their motorhome. During one road trip on the motorcycles, they climbed Pike’s Peak. Among all the interesting places they traveled, they truly enjoyed spending time in Harbor Springs, Michigan. He was a devoted father and grandfather, and relished opportunities to attend school functions, dance recitals, and sporting events. He will be dearly missed by them all.

In addition to Carol, his beloved wife of over fifty-two years, he is survived by his sons; Matt (Jen) Gorski, and Travis (Meaghan) Gorski; grandchildren, Madison, Mackenzie, and Nora; his brothers, Gerry (Joan) Gorski, Gene (Carolyn) Gorski and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who join his family in mourning his passing and giving thanks for his life among them.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, on Wednesday, January 15, from 3-8PM. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Mary Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, 1955 E. Commerce Rd., Milford, on Thursday, January 16, at 11AM.
