Obituary for Antoinette "Toni" Theresa Strauss

Antoinette “Toni” T. Strauss, a long time resident of Milford, passed away peacefully on November 28th, 2021. She was 80 years old.

Life started out in a small apartment above her grandparent’s Detroit grocery store for Antoinette (Toni) Strauss. She later became the big sister to a brother and baby sister. At the age of 16 her family moved to Milford and there she met and fell in love with the boy next door(literally). They were married in 1960 and remained happily so for 61 years.

During those 61 years, the center of her life were her 2 boys and cherished daughter, followed by five grandchildren, and finally three great-grandchildren. She loved them fiercely and relished the time she spent with them on birthdays, holidays, and vacations. She was a babysitter, cheerleader, group project leader, and shoulder-to-cry-on anytime it was needed. Once the grandkids grew up, it became her goal to dance at all their weddings, and in 2018 she was finally able to check that item off her bucket list.

Along with her family, she and Larry also loved spending time with their many friends and extended family playing cards, having picnics, throwing parties, attending bowling leagues, going to dance club, traveling around the country and Europe, and sneaking in annual up-north get-a-ways. She enjoyed hosting and putting out a spread for frequent gatherings of friends and family in her home. The annual Strauss Family Christmas Cookie Bake was a highlight of the year for over 30 years.

During her working years, she was fortunate to have a rewarding career in public service first as a Deputy Clerk for Milford Township and Village, and then as the Milford Village Clerk for ten years. She spent many years as an election official, even after her retirement from public life.

Later in life, she got a lot of satisfaction attending services, volunteering for the church fair, and meals on wheels for many years at St. Mary’s church in Milford.

In between all this activity, she enjoyed reading, gardening, antiquing, and planning home improvement projects.
Throughout, it was always Toni and Larry together; whether it was raising and supporting their family, working on projects, having exciting travels, enjoying friendships, and being that one true witness on earth to each other’s lives.

She will be dearly missed, but she will live on in the love and lives of the family and friends she devoted her life to.

Daughter of the late Edwin and Adelaide Filip, Toni is survived by her husband of 61 years, Lawrence “Larry” A. Strauss; children, Joseph (Carol) Strauss, Jeffrey (Karen) Strauss, and Christine (Jim) Eldridge; grandchildren, Kimberly (Nicholas) Kocsis, Kirsten (Merrick) Lincoln, Michael (Jenna) Strauss, Catherine (Blake) Andersen, and Katie (Nathan) Huff; great grandchildren, Isabelle, Nolan, and Delilah; siblings, Edwin (Kathy) Filip, and Roseann (Bob Butler) Hamel; sister-in-law, Beverly (Bernie) Urban; dear beloved friend, Phyllis Motley; also many extended family and dear friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, MI 48381, on Saturday, December 4th, at 4:30PM. Visitation will be held from 3 PM until the time of service.
