Antoinette Zaguroli of Commerce Township, died peacefully in the care of her family on July 7, 2010. She was 85 years old. Conceived in Italy and Born in the USA on October 3, 1924, she was the daughter of Dominic and Elisa Liegghio. She grew up in Detroit and worked for the Ford Motor Company where she met her Dominic, the love of her life. When he went off to war, their romance blossomed through the letters they wrote each other and when he came home they got engaged and then married in 1946. They both worked hard -- he put in 14 hour days seven days a week and she working round the clock and calendar to care for their growing family and home. Antoinette's devout faith, hard work and deep love of family made her the matriarch of a large network of extended family and life-long friends. Their home on Ravinewood became the center of huge celebrations -- holidays and weddings and birthdays and graduations -- she had a gift for making each relationship unique and special and each of her grandchildren has a treasury of memories of their beloved "Nana." She cooked for them, baked Christmas cookies, played pinochle on Friday nights religiously and listened to their hopes and heartaches with patience and understanding. Her devout Catholicism -- she loved the lives of the saints, made a pilgrimage to Fatima, and believed in the power of prayer -- kept her family close knit and gave meaning to her life in all its joys and sorrows. When she and Dominic celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, they marked it with a family cruise, although they had everyone's ticket but their own!
For their 60th anniversary, they went off to Niagara Falls where Antoinette was more interested in playing the casino than in seeing the falls. Faith, family, and friendship were the foundations of her life and work.
Antoinette is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dominic, and by their children, Donna (Michael) Mehall, Rosemarie (Jerry) O'Hara, Sandra Stram, Gino Zaguroli and the late Dominic Zaguroli. Dear grandmother of Anthony (Lisa) Peruchietti, Annette (Eric) Langley, Gina (Jeremy) Peruchietti, Jason (Melissa) O'Hara, David O'Hara, Christopher O'Hara, Deanna O'Hara, Lisa Stram, Lindsay Stram, Bianca Zaguroli and 5 great grandchildren. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends who join in mourning the death of a dear woman and giving thanks to God for her life among them.
