Obituary for Arlene Kimball

Arlene Kimball, a lifelong resident of Milford, died on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Huron Valley Hospital. She was 75 years old. Born in Milford on April 17, 1936, she was the daughter of Lyal and Helen (Nicholson) Caswell. She grew up in Milford with four older brothers, a quiet, bookish girl active in the local Methodist Church, good at homework and reading the encyclopedia. After graduating as valedictorian of Milford High School Class of 1954, she was courted by Gordon Kimball, the brother of her best friend, whom she had known since they were ten years old. They were married on May 27 1961. Arlene went to work for Huron Valley Schools and served as secretary to superintendents Johnson and Harold Hanson on the Board of Education. The family settled on Lone Tree Road where she and Gordie raised their son and daughters in a household that soon became like Grand Central Station and where Arlene was never the center of attention but always the brains behind the operation. Twenty five years ago, Arlene retired from the school system to work as the bookkeeper for the family business, Milford Glass on South Main Street, where she was glad that it kept her in daylong contact with her family and the community. Always an avid reader, she played the piano, and loved riding on Shotgun her horse. She enjoyed the out of doors, living by the motto, out at dawn, in at dusk, and in later years, watching CSI reruns and the History Channel and the generations of children and grandchildren grow up around her. Her family formed the core of her life.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Gordon; her son, Bryan (Ella) Kimball, daughters, Lisa (Alan) Crow, Debbie (John) Daul, Shawna (Tim Karoly) Kimball, grandchildren Carol (James) Goody, Chrissy (Mike) Collier, D.J. (Amanda) Lipka, Rachel, Ross, Tommy, Lindsay Laway, Josh and Alanna Crow, Johnny and Dina Daul, Andrea, Kayla and Michelle Karoly and brother, David (Margaret) Colby. Also survived by her sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, extended family members and many dear friends.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Church of The Holy Spirit, 3700 N. Harvey Lk. Rd., Highland, Monday, October 3 at 10AM with Fr. Leo Lulko officiating. Burial Highland Cemetery. Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, Sunday 3-9PM. Rosary Sunday 7PM. Memorials may be made to Michigan Humane Society or ASPCA.
