Arnold W. Haner, a resident of Milford for over 60 years, crossed over peacefully at home in the care of his family and friends, on Tuesday, December 27, 2011. He was 95 years old.
Born July 17, 1916 in Midland, Michigan, he was the son of George and Carrie Belle (nee. Brady) Haner, and younger brother of Clyde Haner. Arnold was a graduate of Ford Trade School and worked for Ford Motor Company for 52 years. Better buy a Ford he would always say. Arnold was very generous in encouraging family and friends to use his Ford Z-Plan. It was while working at Ford he met and married Faye Beagle on February 1, 1947. They moved into the house on Huron Street in 1948, which has been the family home ever since. Arnold was enthusiastic about sharing and teaching his hobbies to his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is characterized by those who knew him as a generous, gentle, and patient. Arnold persevered many devastating events in his life, but through it all he taught his family how to be strong and survive. His dry, yet witty sense of humor, kept his family and friends always chuckling. Arnold loved to bowl, golf, travel, boat, and camp with Faye and his family. He enjoyed hunting and fishing expeditions with colleagues and friends. Arnold also had a great affection for his many house pets through the years.
Arnold was able to remain in his home these recent years, in spite of vision and health challenges, thanks to a wonderful crew of caregivers, who truly became an extension of his family, Diane, Helen, Deb, Sonya, and Sonyas Chiauau, Barbie. Arnold and his family are immensely grateful for how these caregivers, sister-in-law Bernadine; neighbors, Chuck and the Smith family; Nurse Practitioner, Mickey Baily; Spiritual guidance and ceremony from Debbie Mast and Christ Lutheran Church; Dr.s Kate Lipkin, Gregory Oldford, Kim Margolis; nurse Marilyn Remillard from the @HOMesupport Agency; and the kind staff at all the offices, were ever present for daily care and support in a myriad of ways.
He was preceded in death by Faye, his beloved wife of over 55 years; daughter, Elaine Heater; and great-granddaughter, Maya Jane Velzen-Haner.
Arnold is survived by his daughter, Gail Lowe of White Lake; grandchildren, Tom (Margaret) Dennis of White Lake, Cindy (Steve) Haner-Velzen of Grand Rapids, and Debbie Heater of Dearborn; great-grandchildren, Eric, Emma Faye, Evan, Ella Dennis and Ian Velzen-Haner; and son-in-law Fred Heater.
