Obituary for Arthur A. "Art" Carter

Arthur A. Art Carter, a resident of Holly since 1975 and former resident of Taylor, died on July 19, 2010, at the age of seventy-four.
Born on October 3, 1935 in River Rouge, Michigan, the son of Lawrence Phillip Carter and Margaret (Young) Carter, Art grew up in Taylor. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during peacetime and was stationed in Germany where he drove for officers and became a marksman and delivered messages. After his return from the service, on a blind date, he met Pat Boultinghouse and was smitten with love at first sight. The young couple -- he called her Pumpkin -- were married on January 10, 1961 and settled in Taylor where they made their home for fifteen years. In 1975 he and Pat moved to Holly where he built their home, worked with Guaranteed Construction Company and opened Carter Country Homes, adult foster care facilities, which he operated with his wife and family.
Art was an avid hunter and stalked big game -- deer and wild boar and caribou -- in Michigan, Canada and Indiana. He had a great sense of humor and easy wit, and more than anything he loved his family and seeing the generations rising up around him. His deep and abiding Christian faith and his love of Jesus saw him through good times and hard times and filled him with the hope of heaven.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Pat, and by his daughters, Cindy Carter, Wendy (Norm) Davidson, Angela (Rusty) Cockerham; his son, Daryl (Lori) Jamieson, seventeen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, brothers, Joe OGrady, Wendell Carter, and a sister, Laura Jane Carter. He was preceded in death by a son, Arthur Carter, Jr.
