Obituary for Arthur Francis Buch

Arthur Francis Buch, age 68 of Commerce, passed away on Friday, June 4, 2010.

Arthur Francis Buch, a longtime resident of Commerce Township, died on Friday, June 4, 2010 of complications related to heart disease. He was 68 years old. Born in Detroit, the week before Pearl Harbor, on November 30, 1941, his boyhood was full of news of World War II and then Korea. He was the son of Arthur E. & Alice Marie Buch and grew up in a household with two brothers and two sisters. Arts siblings recall fond memories of playing card and board games and listening to the Lone Ranger on the radio during the winter months... the time the hockey net was built so Art could practice his shooting skills... the time he took his sister for a ride in his Mach 1-turning the corner so fast she ended up on his lap... or all the times when Art tried to show his younger brother the Right Way of doing things; teasing and competing, as brothers often do, out of admiration and love. By age 17 he coaxed his mother into co-signing his enlistment in the U.S. Army where he became an expert marksman and first class gunner, serving six and a half years in Korea and Germany before returning home to begin his career as a machine operator and later a nurseryman and horticulturalist, and to marry the love of his life, Mary "Chris" with whom he shared life's joys, sorrows and great adventures. Once on a trip to Rome he told her, "If it wasn't for you I would not have done a lot of things in life." The love they would have shown to the children they never had, they gave in abundance to their nieces and nephews. Arthur loved to make people laugh, though he avoided the spotlight. He saw the world in black and white and was a "straight-shooter" known for his honesty and integrity. He loved hunting & fishing, bowling, trips to the casino, family and friends and even after heart bypass surgery in January, his love of life and the sparkle in his eyes never dimmed.

In addition to his father, Arthur Edward Buch and mother, Alice Marie Harbut, Art was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce (d.1991). He is survived by Mary "Chris", his loving wife of over 43 years; sisters, Connie (Ron) Biederman, Juanita Harbut; brother, Andrew Harbut; aunt, Betty White and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends and his cats, Polar Bear and Snowy.

Art was preceded in death by his parents Arthur Edward Buch and Alice Marie Harbut.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1955 E. Commerce Rd., Milford, Friday, June 11, 11 AM. Fr. Manuel Chircop will officiate. Burial and Military Honors at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford on Wednesday 4-9 PM & Thursday 3-9 PM.
