Obituary for Austin Lee Killebrew

Austin Lee Killebrew, age 19, of Commerce Township, died on August 18, 2012.

Austin was born at Sinai Grace in Detroit on October 18, 1992, the eldest child of Mark and Shelley (Igras) Killebrew. Austin was born with Spastic Quadriplegia Cerebral Palsy and took lifes challenges in stride. His parents made great efforts to give Austin every opportunity and therapy available. Starting at the age of five, Austin and his family made the first of many one-month trips to Poland to employ therapy used at Euromed Center in Poland. One therapist, Mariola Bala eventually moved to the U.S. to work with Austin at home. Austin was often described as happy-go-lucky and was the happiest, most social person everyone knew. He loved life and could often be seen smiling or laughing, and once he started laughing it was impossible to stop him.

He attended Loon Lake Elementary, Clifford Smart Middle School in Walled Lake and was a 2012 graduate of Walled Lake Central High School. Austin LOVED school and his classmates, teachers and schools were a big support to him. He adored his younger sister and brother and really enjoyed watching Mary Katherines gymnastics or Jonahs baseball and hockey games. Not only did Austin like to watch sports, but he played baseball on the Miracle League, loved to bowl, especially on his birthdays, and had the rare opportunity to meet and get autographs by Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson at the Buick Open. Austin found great joy in going fast, whether it was his uncle Larrys speedboat or the fastest ride at amusement parks, one of his favorites being Splash Mountain at Disney World in Florida. Austin touched the lives of everyone he came in contact with and he will be missed at St. Marys where he always joyously participated in singing or saying the Masses with Fr. Ron.

It was not Austins way to say good-bye, it was always I love you.

He leaves his parents, Mark and Shelley Killebrew, his sister, Mary Katherine, and brother, Jonah; grandparents, Bobby and Janet Killebrew; aunts and uncles, Lydia (Ray) Jechorek, Kent Killebrew, Cindy (Larry) Neblett, Richard (Donna) Igras, and Lynne Hall; cousins, Kyle Killebrew, Chelsea Neblett, Diane Igras, Ryan and Kelly Killebrew, Erin and Jack Hall; god-mother, Sandy McBride and many, many dear friends who join his family in giving thanks to God for his life among them.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. Marys Catholic Church, 1955 E. Commerce Road, Milford, on Tuesday, August 21, at 11AM with Fr. Ron Anderson officiating. Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, on Monday, August 20, 3-9PM, with a Rosary at 7PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Walled Lake Central, Department of Special Services or to Ronald McDonald House.
