Obituary for Barbara Jean Shanebrook

Barbara “Bucia” Jean Shanebrook, a resident of Milford, died at home on May 2, 2018 following a brief battle with heart trouble.

Barb was born on October 12, 1943, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, the only child of Eugenia Jean Buczynski. As a child, Barb moved to Michigan with her mother and graduated from Bentley High School in Livonia. Through mutual friends, Barb was introduced to Howard Shanebrook and after a brief courtship, the couple married in 1963. They were blessed with their son, Brian and built their home in Milford, where they have lived for over forty six years.

Barb will be remembered for her kind and fun-loving nature, her tenacity and fearlessness, especially as she battled and survived cancer twice, and her love of people. She was a patient wife, proud mother, doting grandmother and great-grandmother and always regarded her life’s greatest achievement, her family. Over the years, she was known as the “Tupperware Lady” and “Barburrito”, but most importantly, Barb was “Bucia”. She was a mother and grandmother to all. Barb was her son, Brian’s, biggest fan and cheerleader — she attended all of his events, from high school band concerts to shows with his band at local restaurants. As Brian started a family of his own, Barb was a huge help with his two daughters, Cassie and Hanah, as well as helped raise and instill many good values in the children of their neighbors, family and friends. A tight knit family, Brian built a second home on the property for Barb and Howard where they talked a lot, laughed often and entertained many friends. Barb enjoyed painting at paint and wine parties, playing dominoes with the girls on Sundays and sitting out on her deck overlooking the pond.

She will dearly missed by many, especially her husband of fifty five years, Howard; her son, Brian; granddaughters, Cassie and Hanah; great-grandson, Jaizek; daughter-in-law, Shannon, as well as hundreds of dear friends. She was also preceded in death and survived many members of the Rochowiac, Buczynski, Kotrys and Coll families.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at 1 PM with visitation beginning at noon. The Rev. Carl Welser to officiate. Friends may visit the funeral home on Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 3-7 PM.
