Obituary for Bernice "Bea" C. Lendzion

Bernice C. Lendzion

Born Bernice Cecelia Gibeau on October 6, 1918 in Detroit, Michigan, Bernice was one of three children, and the only daughter of parents, Cecelia (nee. Schneren) and Edward J. Gibeau. Bea and her brothers, Ed and George were raised in the Dearborn community. Later, the family moved to St. Claire Shores and Grosse Pointe.

Bea was engaged to be married to another, but Norman had always had his eyes on her; in fact, he told their mutual friends that he planned to marry Bea before they had even formally met. Once Bea and Norman finally did meet at a General Motors Party, the two were married less than two weeks later in Angola, Indiana.

Bea and Norman made their home in Gaylord where she had her business, Gen-el Dress Shop, and Norman was an Angus cattleman. They were blessed by the births of their children, Charlene and Norman.

After they retired, Norman and Bea moved to New Port Richey, Florida where they spent 22 years before Norman’s illness brought them back to Michigan. Norman passed away in 2000.

Norman and Bea were married 63 years. In their years together, they enjoyed traveling the world. Bea loved best their time in New Zealand, Nova Scotia and Alaska.

Bea was a woman of deep faith. She was a longtime parishioner at Church of the Holy Spirit in Highland, an active member of the Woman’s Club and a fixture of the Funeral Luncheon team with her close friend, Helen Nowocinski. Bea believed in serving the Lord both faith and works—her advice to the generations that survive her is to “Work. Keep your family together. Love one another. And you’ll be happy.”

Bea was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Norman; her son-in-law, James Jolly; great-grandson, James Cobb; brothers, Ed (Jean) and George Gibeau.

Bea is survived by her children, Charlene (Clem Martzolff) Jolly and Norman (Sidna) Lendzion; grandchildren, Pamela (Tom) Rigotti, Tammy (Scott) Fray, Lori (Dean) Charlick, Linda (Art Kleino) Rice, Julie (Matt) Bedford, Kathleen (Patrick) Stankus, Jere Jolly, and Jeffrey (Pamela) Jolly; great-grandchildren, Rachel Rigotti, Jenna Rigotti, Easton Fray, Aubrey Fray, Christa (Jeffrey) Parsons, Cari Cobb, Adriana Rice, Sam Bedford, Seth Bedford, Morgan Stankus, Keeley Stankus and Kellen Stankus; great-great-grandchildren, Quentin Charlick, Ciara Charlick, Madeline Rice, Richard James Jolly, Hannah Parsons, Olivia Parsons, Molly Parsons, Audrey Parsons, Maggie Cobb, Isaac Cobb, Abigail Cobb and Christopher Cobb and sister-in-law, June Gibeau as well as extended family and friends.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held at Church of the Holy Spirit, 3700 N. Harvey Lake Rd., Highland, on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 10 AM. The Rev. Fr. Wayne Ureel to officiate. Gathering will begin the hour prior at 9 AM. Lunch will follow Mass. Burial of ashes at Highland Cemetery.

Memorials encouraged to the church.
