She met her husband Erwin while trimming a Christmas Tree during a church function. Within a month of their meeting, Erwin proposed to Betty (through the mail!) while he was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. Betty & Erwin were later blessed with the births of their five children (Mike, Lynn, Paul, Dean, and Sue). In 1973, they moved to their home on Tipsico Lake Road in Highland Township where they enjoyed seeing their family grow with grandchildren. Betty enjoyed travelling and camping with her family, including trips to Interlochen , the Great Smoky Mountains, Alaska and Hawaii. She loved to read and could often be found with her nose buried in a book. She enjoyed spending time with her family at their cottage on Higgins Lake, where many hands of pinochle and euchre were played with family and friends. Betty also enjoyed visiting Soaring Eagle, Turtle Creek and Odawa Casinos, and making Swedish weaving blankets for her family.
