GRIEF & HEALING
affirmations to uplift & help you through
each stage of the grieving process.
Be the first to share your favorite memory, photo or story of Betty. This memorial page is dedicated for family, friends and future generations to celebrate the life of their loved one.
We ask on behalf of the family that you keep your comments uplifting and appropriate to help all who come here to find comfort and healing.
Betty was born in Salem, W. Virginia, the youngest of Towles and Mina Douglass' six children. True to her heritage, John Denver's song, "Country Roads" was one of her favorites. She lived in Detroit for much of her life and in her later years, after retiring from Huron Valley Schools, she became a "snowbird" dividing her residences between Highland or White Lake, Michigan and N. Fort Myers, Florida.
Betty and her childhood sweetheart, Joe, were married 69 years before he preceded her in death. They had campers for most of their married life and enjoyed spending time camping with family and friends, as well as boating , traveling and eating out. Betty especially loved Michigan State Parks. She was always involved in her children's activities including volunteering and serving as a Cub Scout leader.
Betty was proud of her Scottish heritage and enjoyed tracing her genealogy and attending Douglass family reunions each year. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she especially loved decorating her home. She enjoyed looking at albums of family photos and was a real crossword puzzle wizard.
Betty was preceded in death by her spouse, Joseph Borg, 5 siblings, 2 grandchildren and one great grandchild. She is survived by her four children - Donna (Mark) Hubbard of Highland, MI; Larry (Darlene) Borg of Lakewood, CA; Debbie (Larry) Dolkowski of Highland, MI; and Denise (Shane) DeWitt of N. Ft. Myers, FL as well as 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.
