Obituary for Bo A. Fortson

Dr. Raymond (Bo) Allen Fortson, Jr. went to his hangar in the sky on September 23, 2016 with his family at his side.  He was born July 18, 1959 in Detroit and resided the majority of his life at Lake Sherwood.

He is survived by his wife, Tyra Fortson, and sons Dr. Cory and Connor Fortson.  He is also survived by his siblings Valerie (Terry) Eikenberg, Raynelle (Craig) Bohn, Craig (Laura) Fortson, and Dr. Ralph (Diane) Fortson and their families. He was preceded by his mother, Noka, and father, Dr. Raymond Fortson, Sr.

Dr. Bo practiced dentistry in the Southfield area for over 30 years. A proud Wolverine, he earned his degree in dentistry from the University of Michigan in 1985. Dr. Bo's enthusiasm for the field inspired his son, Cory, to become a dentist and join him in the family business. And he always looked for opportunities to mentor young dentists and help them build their careers. Between his profession and his hilarious sense of humor, he left us all smiling.

In addition to dentistry, Dr. Bo had a passion for aviation. He held a pilot's license and flew almost weekly. He especially loved flying to Lake Charlevoix with Tyra, Cory, and Connor. Through his involvement with Operation Good Cheer, he put his pilot's training to work for others. Doing his best Santa impression, Dr. Bo would fly Christmas presents to underprivileged children across Michigan.

We'll remember him as the best father and husband anyone could ask for. We'll remember the ease with which he made friends. We'll remember his ability to cheer us up in trying times. We'll remember his spontaneity and determination to live life to the fullest. We'll remember all the tinkering around the house. We'll remember the sincerity with which he believed he could have been a rock star. We'll remember his love for hunting, golfing, and boating. We'll even remember a recent flirtation with fishing...and the distinct lack of fish it produced.

Bo, we miss you dearly.
