Obituary for Caleb Valentine

Caleb “Cal” Valentine, age 80, and a resident of Milford, died on August 4, 2020 after a 1 1/2 year battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

Cal was born on June 22, 1940, the son of Edward and Lillie Valentine, in Middlesboro, Kentucky, where he starred on the football team. After serving his country in the U.S. Army Cal graduated from Cosmetology School and went on to co-own Cal and Koehler Hair Salon in Farmington Hills for many years. He retired in 2017.

Throughout the years Cal enjoyed many dear friendships with guys from other area salons. They golfed every Sunday and enjoyed yearly trips to courses in northern Michigan. He truly loved golf, was proud of his ‘hole-in-one’, and shared his love of golf with his children.

Cal loved dancing and enjoyed he and Rena’s get-away to the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island each year. At home he enjoyed time spent on his tractor mowing and plowing snow, and his fellowship with the Milford Historical Society and the Milford American Legion Post.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Rena, with whom he celebrated nineteen years of marriage on August 4; his son, Joseph William Valentine and his wife, Hollie Marie Valentine and their children, Sophia Marie Valentine and Bianca Catherine Valentine; his daughter, Jessica Lacy (Valentine) Hempel and her husband, Brandon Kyle Hempel and their children, Noah Dale Hempel, Faith Mae Hempel, Chloe Lynn Hempel, Hannah Rose Hobson, Madalyn Lacy Hobson; his step-son, Joshua Dean Reno and his wife Adelle Rae Reno and their children, Callie Ann Reno, Chloe Rene Reno, Paige Angelina Saulle, Brooke Alexandra Reno. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward & Lily Valentine, and his first wife, Wilma Valentine.

Interment will be held privately at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
