Obituary for Carmelena Carmie Staup

Carmelena Carmie Staup, a former resident of Livonia passed away on December 21, 2009. She was 86 years old. Born on April 8, 1923, the daughter of Giuseppe and Rose Milazzo Guarniere, Carmie grew up in Detroit, where she was a graduate of Detroit Northern High School. She later moved to Battle Creek where she worked as a clerk at Security National Bank, and also spent time managing her parents Capital Avenue Grocery Store.

Carmelena was a true matriarch. She worked hard in raising her three children and made it her mission in life to satisfy and give comfort to her family, and friends and others. It made her feel good to give of herself to people, and she was always there for support during hospital stays, funerals, or to provide transportation to those in need. Her Christmas gifts always included useful items, and items that you may have had trouble finding yourself. She sent special/or the not-so-usual gifts to family members in Italy and Sicily (popcorn, Jello, aluminum foil) where such things couldnt be obtained. In her spare time she enjoyed needlepoint, embroidery, collecting milk and depression glass, was a member of the Italian American Club, and enjoyed her role as the family historian.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Mike) Mauck of Brighton; sons, Bob (Sarah) Staup of Royal Oak, Randy (Sandy) Staup of TN; grandchildren, Crystal (Christopher) Blair, Scott (Kerri) Staup, Kelly (Mike) Cannon, Jeff (Laura) Mauck, Eric (Krista) Mauck; ten great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Guarniere.

In the words of her son-in-law, Mike (using not so proper English), "nobody doesn't not like Carmie".

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, on Wednesday, Dec. 23, at 10:30AM, with Deacon Jim Gendron officiating. Burial will follow at Milford Memorial Cemetery. Friends may visit Tuesday 3-9PM. Rosary Tuesday 7PM. Memorials may be made in her name to the Alzheimers Association.
