Obituary for Carrie Winn Boomer

Carrie Winn Boomer, 73, of Milford, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021.

Beloved wife of Mel Boomer for 53 years. Loving mother of Tammy Boomer, Tom Boomer (Erin), and the late Kim Boomer. Proud grandmother of Jarrett Worrell and Tenley Worrell. Dear sister of Jeanie Sizemore (Ed), Jerry Vought, and the late Jan Robertson (the late Skip) and the late Jack Vought (Cory). Also survived by her in-laws Jeanie Jenner Vought, Paul Boomer (Gail), Tom Boomer (Anne), Kay Boomer, Crystal Boomer (Ron Shell), and many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Carrie was born in Pontiac MI and graduated from Pontiac Central High School where, while both working at the grocery store, she met the love of her life, Mel, who she lovingly referred to as MJ, throughout their 53 years of marriage. While her children were young, Carrie devoted her time to caring for them as well as the other neighborhood kids or at the daycare center. Her love for children grew into a career as a paraprofessional in the Huron Valley and Walled Lake School districts where she worked until her diagnosis with Parkinson’s Disease.

Carrie became an immediate friend to anyone she met, almost anywhere she went and had maintained many close friendships throughout her life. Her sweet demeanor, warm smile and words of gratitude lived with you even long after your first encounter. Carrie loved to love and loved to be loved. If Carrie loved you, you knew and would never hold back telling you or offering a compliment. Carrie always liked to write little love and thank you notes to her family and friends, especially to MJ. Rarely apart, especially in their retirement years, their love story is one for the books. MJ proudly and literally took the vow of “in sickness and in health” as he took on a role of her primary caregiver for over 20 years as her Parkinson’s Disease progressed. His love for her and her adoration for him was the purest form. Something so admired by so many. Up until the end, you would still find love notes written to each other in spots throughout the house.

Carrie enjoyed crafts, making gift baskets for others, garage sales and buying little trinkets to give to her loved ones that reminded her of them. Carrie loved a good laugh and to poke fun, always “tattling” on MJ and loved a bit of gossip.

Most importantly, Carrie loved her family and close friends. She took pride in being a Grammy to her two grandchildren and showing off her “grandpup”. Carrie had an undeniable love for her children and daughter-in-law and, most notably, an undying love for her husband.

Tammy, Tom and Erin would like to thank her many caregivers, especially her nurses and social worker, Nicholas, at Heartland Hospice as well as the many friends of Carrie and Mel who have helped, comforted and encouraged them along the way.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 11:00am at St. Mary Catholic Church 1955 E. Commerce Rd., Milford, MI 48381. Visitation begins at the church at 10:00am.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Carrie’s name to The Michigan Parkinson Foundation or The Michael J Fox Foundation.

The family encourages following CDC recommendations while gathering.
