Obituary for Charles William Gibson Jr.

Charles Willam “Chuck” Gibson Jr. of St. Clair Shores, MI, was born in Detroit on March 15, 1928, lived in Michigan his entire life and departed this world on December 19th, 2020.

During his high school years, he proudly performed as a radio actor for a story hour and other radio programs on Detroit Public Schools Radio. After high school, he served in the army during the Korean War and created lifelong friendships with many from his unit, which turned into becoming part of their families.

He was lovingly known as “Uncle Chuck” too many. He loved to travel to many places in the world, but his favorite destination was Hawaii and for many years he would take his mother there every fall. Chuck was always ready to “sing a ditty”, from his days in the army or which he created to entertain others. Chuck would socialize with anyone who would talk to him and many both them became his friends.

Chuck had an entertaining answering machine message for every season that would cause people to call him just to hear the message. He loved bowling, playing pool, being social the Olive Garden restaurant, and his Gin Martinis. His many stories about his life, travels, and friendships were endless and a joy to listen to, anytime he would share, which was always.

Chuck lived in St. Clair Shores since the 1950’s and worked at National Wholesale Drugs for many years as a purchasing agent.

Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Charles William Gibson Sr., and his mother Viola L. (nee. Smiley) Gibson, along with many close friends from his life. He is survived by Tami M. Averill, and Ronald E. Averill, children of his close friends Ronald W. and Maxine M. Averill.

Chuck was loved by many and he will be missed by all that knew him.

A private Memorial Service and will be held on December 24th, 2020.
