Obituary for Charles Joseph Bachmeier Sr.

Charles Joseph Bachmeier Sr., of Milford, passed away peacefully on September 18th, 2022, while surrounded by all his beloved children. He was 77 years old.

Charles was born in Bismarck, North Dakota in 1945. His father, Pete, moved the family to Michigan when Charles was 9 years old. Growing up in Metro Detroit, he developed a life-long love for automobiles. He worked at several garages and service stations as teen before he started working on the assembly line at Ford Motor Company in 1966. From there, he began his skilled trades apprenticeship which he completed as a Millwright in 1975. After working in the skilled trades for several years, he was asked to move to supervision at Ford’s Livonia Transmission Plant. He retired from Ford in 2000 after more than 30 years. He often spoke of the many fond memories and personal relationships he’d made during his time at Ford and was very proud that several of his children had chosen to follow in his footsteps and join the company.

Outside of work, Charles was an avid muscle car and motorcycle enthusiast, owning many of each throughout his life. He would often attend the Woodward Dream Cruise and other car shows to display one of his own cars or simply admire the collection of vehicles and fraternize with other gear heads.

Charles was a devoted family man, raising 5 children with his wife of 47 years, Linda. He instilled in his children a love of automobiles, dirt bikes, and ATVs at an early age that they still hold to this day and are passing down to his grandchildren. He was always quick to offer a word of encouragement to his children and often expressed the pride he felt in them.

Son of the late Pete and Cecilia Bachmeier, Charles is survived by his children, Bethany (Steven) Hasley, Charles Joseph (Barbara) Jr., Amanda (Aram) Sherman, Joshua (Kaitlin) Bachmeier, and Jason Bachmeier; grandchildren, Jarrod (Melanie), Hannah and Grace Hasley, Charles IV, Maxwell (Genevieve) and Noah Bachmeier, Jack and Peter Sherman, Olivia, Joshua, James Bachmeier, and Luke Bachmeier; great grandchildren, Sophia, Gavyn, Ronald, and Jude; Linda Bachmeier (who Charles shared his beautiful family with); also many extended family and dear friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, MI 48381, on Thursday, September 22nd, at 12:30pm. Visitation will be from 10:30am until the time of service.
