Obituary for Charles L. Hutton

Charles L. Hutton, a resident of West Bloomfield since 1963, died on December 13, 2008 at Providence Hospital in Southfield. He was 72 years old. Born in El Dorado Springs, Missouri on February 8, 1936, he grew up in Elgin, Illinois where he was a graduate of St. Charles High School. Following high school he attended the University of Illinois where he starred in several sports, eventually going on to play pro football with the Chicago Bears, a thing he was proud of all of his life. He was an avid sports fan all of his life. Two years ago, at the age of 70, he was offered a scouting job for the Womens Basketball Team at Oakland University. He attended two Rose Bowls, an Orange Bowl, a Final Four featuring U of Ms Fab Five and he was an astute fan as well as an insightful analyst all levels who lived for the games. When he went to the Superbowl at Ford Field in Detroit a couple years ago, it was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.
Married to his sweetheart, Helen, in Dundee, IL more than fifty-four years ago, together they raised three daughters and four sons. He loved piling his family into the car for long vacations. It gave him a captive audience to whom hed tell stories all across the country about the ten thousand lives he seemed to live in one lifetime. He spent years at Edelmann, a brass fitting company, and Holly Carburetor, then finally he built an automotive parts empire which included a wholesale warehouse. He especially enjoyed spending time with and attending all his grandchildrens activities. He often said, I am a rich man because of all my family. He was all about family.
Charles Hutton is survived by Helen, his beloved wife of over 54 years; daughters, Audrey Hutton of Waterford, Wanda (Bob) Hutton-Smith of Farmington Hills, Jill Hutton of White Lake; sons, Charles (Cynthia) Hutton of Highland, Jeff (Jayne) Hutton of Milford, Paul (Staci) Hutton of Fenton and ten grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother, Don (Margaret) Hutton; sister, Shirley Posey; brother-in-law, Ted (Elizabeth) Nehls; sister-in-law, Linda (Bud) Westphal and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Hutton (d.1993), and a granddaughter, Courtney in 2004.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, on Wednesday, December 17th, at 11AM. Burial will follow at Milford Memorial Cemetery. Friends may visit Tuesday 3-9PM. Memorials may be made in his name to the Am. Diabetes Association. For further information please phone 248-684-6645.
