Obituary for Clare Sanderson Johnson

Clare Sanderson Johnson, a resident of White Lake, MI, died on September 28, 2019.

Clare was born on August 29, 1925, in Port Huron, MI to parents, Earnest and Clara Sanderson. She graduated from Detroit Redford High School and went to college at the University of Detroit.

1n 1948 she met Robert Johnson. The two were married in 1950 at Bushnell Church in Southfield, MI. Robert was soon reenlisted into the service and served in Korea until he was discharged in 1952. Clare couldn’t wait to see him, so she traveled by car from Detroit to San Diego, CA. to meet him and bring him home. They resided in Detroit until moving to Livonia in 1975 where they raised their four children, Sarah, Dean, David and Susannah.

Being a social butterfly, Clare and Robert were members of the local Bridge Club and were also part of a rotating dinner party. They enjoyed traveling, visiting destinations such as Ireland, Israel, Spain, England and many cities and towns across the USA. She loved her family and hosted most major Holidays at her home, preparing the meals for all to appreciate.

After Robert’s passing in 1996, Clare spent time volunteering at the Red Cross, her Church and Providence Park Hospital in. Novi, MI. She had a big heart full of kindness and never hesitated helping someone in need or making an outsider feel important and included. Her welcoming nature will never be forgotten as she will be forever missed.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Johnson (d. 1996) and is survived by her children, Sarah (Gary) Otton, Dean (Wendy) Johnson, David (Beth) Johnson and Susannah (Joe) Zatyko; grandchildren, Jennifer (Brad), Steve (Karla), Tim, Melissa, Kaytee (Dan), Emily, Andrew and Ryder; great-grandchildren, Heidi, Alayna and Danny as well as many dear friends and extended family members.
