Obituary for Clayton Butterfield

Clayton L. Butterfield, youngest son of Kenneth & Norma (Newark) Butterfield lost his two and one-half year battle with multiple myeloma cancer on October 21, 2009. He was born October 19, 1947 in Highland Park, Michigan, later moving to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Bloomfield Hills and Commerce Township, Michigan, where he most currently resided. He was a 1965 Andover High Bloomfield Hills graduate who continued his education at Oakland Community College, later receiving his degree in marketing from Detroit College of Business in 1971. He retired in July as a Grocery Manager at Walled Lake Kroger after 46 years.

As a young man, Clayton was an enthusiastic amateur drag racer competing at several events with his �69 Plymouth Road Runner and Chevrolet Camaro. Later his interests turned to snowmobiling taking many trips to Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula with family and friends. More recently he has enjoyed classic car shows.

One of Clayton�s proud accomplishments was the construction of his house with the help of family and good friends. His goal was to provide a handicapped accessible home for his parents who continued to live with him until their deaths. It was his dedication to family and friends that endeared him to all who knew him.

Clayton was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth & Norma Butterfield and his infant brother, Warren. He is survived by his dear friend and companion, Sharon Allen; beloved brothers, Orrin (Anne), Arvin (Catharine); nieces, Kathy (Bob) Walz, Mary (Ross) Carlson, Teri (Alex) Kiresuk; nephews, Bryan (Maureen), Timothy (Tori), Christopher (Hannah), Eric (Caroline), and Luke Butterfield; 16 grand nieces and nephews; and cousin Sandy (Kent) Curtis. Also survived by his extended family, LeRoy & Karen Barker and their sons, Joe and Nick, many dear friends and Kroger coworkers.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, MI on Wednesday, October 28, 11 AM. Pastor Gene Krachenfels to officiate. Burial Evergreen Cemetery, Lansing, MI. Friends may visit on Tuesday 5-8PM and one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Karmanos Cancer Institute. For further information please phone 248-684-6645.
