Obituary for Clifford Lawrence Borlace

Clifford Lawrence Borlace, Sr., a resident of Clay Township., Harsens Island, Michigan, formerly of Detroit and Milford, Michigan, passed away on September 4, 2012. He was 73 years old.

Born on October 1, 1938 in Ishpeming, Michigan, the son of Frederick & Ethel (nee Worth) Borlace, Clifford Nip grew up in Negaunee, and at the age of thirteen moved with his family to Detroit. On his eighteenth birthday, Cliffs father suddenly died of a heart attack, prompting Cliff to leave high school to assist with providing for his family. He quickly found work at an auto parts store before being offered a nickel a day more by a neighboring radiator repair shop. Cliff took the position and began learning all there was to know about radiators and running a small business; knowledge that would become the basis for the Borlace family business, Radiator Hospital. Alongside his brothers, Douglas and Dave (his partner in the business), the company was built from the ground up and successfully grew with acquisitions of multiple stores.
Through friendships in the neighborhood, Clifford met Joan Teskey, the love of his life; beginning the earliest days of their wonderful relationship. Cliff was known in neighborhood as a Bad Boy... that is to say, until he found Joan; and it was apparent in how each complimented the other how well matched they were. Cliff & Joan were married in Detroit on May 10, 1958. In 1975 the Borlace family moved to Milford.
Cliff enjoyed his work a great deal. On the rare occasions he wasnt working, he enjoyed reading, westerns, working out in the yard and above all, being in the company of his family.

In addition to his beloved wife, Joan (nee Teskey), Clifford is survived by his sons, Cliff, Jr. (Bonnie), Doug (Holly), Steve (Kathy) Borlace; daughter, Lori (John) Bucknell; grandchildren, Laura (Tom) Abraham, Cliff, III (Lindsey), Alexandra, Sydney, Britton, Addison, Matthew and Rebecca Borlace, John and Joseph Bucknell; great-grandchildren, Braxton and Payton Borlace; his nieces and nephews, extended family members and dear friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, Saturday, September 8 at 10 AM with Fr. Jack Baker officiating. Friends may visit on Friday from 5-9 PM. For further information please contact Lynch & Sons at 248-684-6645.
