GRIEF & HEALING
affirmations to uplift & help you through
each stage of the grieving process.
Sweetest Colleen, a loving soul and calming presence to anyone who met you. Oh, how you touched our lives! Those fortunate enough to be close to you, as well as casual acquaintances, consider themselves blessed. Your faith, wit, compassion, and smarts will resonate with us forever.
Colleen fought a courageous cancer battle in 2021, passing away September 9 with her beloved son RJ by her side. Colleen was the third of seven children born to Dick and Eileen Meyers, her father passing when Colleen was only 12 years. Colleen’s upbringing prioritized faith in God and love for all, lessons she demonstrated throughout her life on earth.
Colleen was preceded in death by her parents Dick and Eileen, brothers Craig and Tim, sister-in-law Cathy, dogs Troubles, Sassy, Joey, Scooby. She leaves behind her precious and heartbroken son, RJ, siblings Rick (Leslie), Julie, Lorrie, and Ellen. Nieces and nephews, Sandie (Nathan), Joe (Jenny), Leeann (Matt), Shelby (Travis), Mac (Emily), David (Kaelyn), and Danny, great nephews and nieces Liam, Ewan, Nyal, Mary and Nora, close extended family, dear friends Lori, Julie, Matt, Wendy, Deb and sooooo many other dear friends.
Colleen started ‘flipping burgers’ for Burger King at age 16. She found her calling and progressed through the ranks, ultimately becoming a franchise owner. Colleen loved her career and built top notch teams to support her restaurants. More importantly, she developed personal and loving relationships with her employees and partners. Colleen talked about retiring a few years back, but part of her could not let go of her crew and career. She stuck with them until the end.
Colleen always wanted to be a parent. If there was a baby around, it was most likely on Colleen’s lap. Colleen adopted RJ at birth and her life was complete, she LOVED RJ! She was a devoted mother, never missing any sports, church or school events. She raised RJ to be an upstanding young man, impressing all with his kindness, faith and commitment to family and loved ones. Colleen will continue to be RJ’s guardian angel, guiding and protecting him as she did on earth.
Colleen adored family and Michigan, in particular the family cottage on Duck Lake. She had a close, daily connection with her siblings, and an amazingly strong bond with her nieces and nephews. Colleen thrived on the details of everyone’s life and was their biggest cheerleader. There was an inside family joke about ‘being the favorite aunt’, all vying for the title. The reality is Colleen WAS the favorite aunt, sister, friend anyone could imagine. Colleen was the calm and humble family member, something we can all strive for in our lives.
Colleen had so many friends and was philanthropic, volunteering to help the least of us, a true disciple of God. Tri-Kappa, church, prayer group and advocate were only a few of her commitments. Colleen was a ‘big sister’ mentor to ‘little sister’ Jennifer, maintaining a relationship throughout the years. She also brought an exchange student into her home, Jaime from Columbia, and they have stayed connected in love.
Colleen finally got a pontoon boat and was able to enjoy it this summer. Colleen loved traveling - trips included Disneyworld (a favorite), cruising, England, and more recently Hawaii, Arizona, Georgia, Florida and northern Michigan. A planned trip to Greece in 2020 was postponed due to Covid.
Colleen, you touched so many lives and were a good and humble servant of our Lord. You now have your reward, reunited with those who have gone before you. You will truly be missed by those here on earth. Until we meet again . . .
