Obituary for Concetta DiPonio

Concetta DiPonio a resident of Milford, died in the early hours of June 20, 2008. She was 98 years old. Born in St. Elia, Italy, Concetta was raised in the bustling household of a large Italian family and was instilled with the morals and graces of the Catholic faith from an early age. It was in her hometown that she met and married the love of her life, Giuseppe DiPonio, to whom she remained married until his passing in 1999. In 1927 and during the turbulent years of WWII, Concetta and Giuseppe began to forge a life for themselves and started to raise a family together. Of her eight strapping boys and two beautiful daughters, three of her sons were not to make it past childhood. Despite these hardships, Concetta maintained her household and buoyed her family through these difficult times. After the war had ended, the DiPonio family immigrated to River Canard, Canada, where they rebuilt their lives over the next ten years. Despite so much adversity, Concetta remained the pillar of her family, standing strong through any trials and tribulations she had encountered.
Concetta derived pleasure from all that life had to offer. She was happiest though when spending time nurturing and growing with her family. She was an exemplary mother and was the primary educator to her children, whom she instilled a bright and fulfilling future. Concetta made Mass and her faith the center of her heart and the foundation of her childrens education. She cherished spending time with her family, and made it a ritual that every Friday night she and the children would make bread together from scratch. And though this bread fed the family through to the end of the week, this time together also fed the spiritual bond that exists between the mother and her children. Through her courage, clemency, and grace, Concetta touched the lives of so many people in her roles as a loving mother, devoted wife and compassionate friend.
Concetta is survived by her beloved children Philip (Sandra) DiPonio of Windsor, Ontario, Mrs. Celeste (Marino) Melaragni of Milford, Anthony (Joanne) DiPonio of Milford, Mr. Jerry DiPonio of Milford, Mrs. Pasqualina (Mario) Fallone of Milford, Guy (Judith) DiPonio of San Diego, California, and Russell (Mary Ellen) DiPonio of Grand Blanc, Michigan. She is preceded in death by her husband, the late Giuseppe DiPonio, and her sons the late Antonio, Mario and Orazio DiPonio. She also leaves 18 beloved grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout the United States, Italy, France and Canada. Her loss is felt greatly by all those whose lives she touched.
