Obituary for Constance Francine Salvati

Constance F. Salvati, a resident of Wixom, MI died on Saturday, July 31, 2021. She was 78 years old.

Connie was a beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. The second eldest child in a family of six, Connie grew up with a tremendous sense of family and strong Catholic faith. She attended Resurrection grade school and graduated from St. Stanislaus High School in Detroit, Michigan in 1961. From there, she attended Eastern Michigan University and earned her teaching degree. For 30 years, she taught in Catholic schools, spending the majority of her career as a history teacher at Laydwood High School in Livonia. She tirelessly spearheaded countless student trips to Chicago for United Nations competitions, as well as school class trips to Washington D.C. For several years, she served as the Ladywood faculty advisor who assisted students in coordinating the annual prom. In her retirement years, Connie enjoyed numerous family trips to locations such as Yellowstone, Mt. Rainier, Italy, Puerto Rico, California, and Mackinac Island. She had a magnetic personality, as evidenced by the tremendous circle of friends that she has always maintained.

From her children's standpoint, Mom is best described as: beautiful, loving, generous, courageous, persevering, intelligent, and fun. Recently, a healthcare worker asked our mom about the things she liked, what activities she participated in, and what she was interested in. It took him less than five minutes to nail the perfect description of our mother. He quickly dubbed her as "Miss Everything." Besides being an amazing mother and grandmother, Mom has been a volunteer in her church for decades, an active member in her community holding leadership positions, and a teacher who touched the lives of hundreds of students throughout her 30 year career as an educator. She loved spending time with family and friends, traveling, playing cards, boating, golfing, Zumba, bowling, and wine-tasting in California. Making Christmas cookies with her grandchildren was another favorite activity of hers, and one that they treasured. She has been the pillar of love, support & strength throughout our lives and will continue to influence everything that we do going forward. Simply put, Mom is our "everything."

Constance is survived by her children, Janet (Brian) Roberts, Karen (Steve) Gardner and Tim (Cassandra) Salvati; grandchildren, Julia Salvati, Elena Zarlenga, Jack Salvati and Mia Gardner; siblings, Bob (Karen) Wiland, Norman (Rosanne) Wiland, Patricia Wiland and David (Kim) Wiland, as well as many close friends and extended family members.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Danny Wiland and parents, Edward and Viola
(nee. Hemak) Wiland.
