Cordell C. Avery of Springfield Twp. and formerly Lathrup Village passed away peacefully June 16, 2011 in the care of his family.
Cordell Columbus Avery was born in Williamson, West Virginia to Columbus Council Avery and Margie Watkins Avery on November 29, 1940. He was the youngest of seven children. His parents, two brothers, Luther Daniel Avery and Joseph T. Avery and four sisters, Mary Emma Bryant, Carolyne Johnson, Margie Jean Duskin and Mable Avery Duskin preceded him in death.
Cordell loved business and began his career early in life when he sold herbs and potions door-to-door to neighbors in Williamson, West Virginia. Cordell's life long dream was to own his own warehouse and transportation company. In 1987, he took $1,000 and rented a building on historical Ferry Street in Detroit. His determination, hard work, reliability, tenacity and optimism awarded him long term contracts with Coca-Cola, Xerox, and Belle Tire. Cordell continued working until the time of his death.
Cordell loved life! He had many interests; carpentry, tile setting, hard landscape, music and television. Busy but extremely organized, he made time to love his family and keep in touch with friends and relatives.
Cordell is survived by his devoted loving wife, Patricia, daughters Michelle Santavicca O'Neil (Michael), Margie C. Avery, Tanya Novara (Keith); grandchildren Olivia Grace, Courtney and Brandon. In addition Cordell has many nieces, nephews, friends, business associates and neighbors who will miss this charming gracious gentleman.
