Obituary for Curtis F. Kohs

Curtis F. Kohs, a resident of Milford, formerly of Northville, died on Thursday, August 18, 2011. He was 68 years old. Born in Detroit on October 30, 1942, one of three sons of George, Sr. and Geraldine (nee Kincaid) Kohs, Curt grew up in Northville and graduated from Northville High School in 1960. Following high school he attended Ferris State where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. A member of the Army Reserve, Curt would see a short duration of his service time in active duty, and upon discharge, went to work with Ford Motor Company. It was at Ford Motor that Curt met the love of his life, Kathryn Gouba. They married on October 30, 1982, Curtis' birthday. They were blessed with the birth of their only child, Kristin, in 1988 and upon living in Brighton for a short time, chose to purchase a home in Milford.

Curt retired from Ford Motors in 2000, and in 2005 his beloved Kathryn would lose her battle with cancer. In the years since his wife's passing he maintained an unbreakable connection with his loving and supportive family and, alongside his brother, he was devoted to caring for his mother just before her passing. Curt was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing for salmon, shooting, motor-boating and sailing. Retirement never seemed to slow him down, and being a superior handyman, he would stay busy fixing and repairing things around the house. He was a proud father and especially grateful to have seen his daughter marry and begin a family of her own. Curt could often be found showing his grandson his tractors, or trying to teach his granddaughter to crawl.

Curt had quite the sense of humor, once he began laughing it became contagious to everyone near him. He was an honorable and devoted man in all aspects of his life. When he sat down to execute a project, he would work until completion, and always gave 100%. Men and women who worked alongside of Curt would attest to this, and would remark on his leadership abilities. It was with these admirable qualities the he lived his life, leaving behind memories that all who knew him will cherish forever.

In addition to his beloved wife, Kathryn V. Kohs, he was preceded in death by his parents, George and Geraldine Kohs. He is survived by his loving daughter, Kristin (Jake) Powell; brothers, George (Sharon) and Gary Kohs and Connie Kohs; grandchildren, Memphis and Veira. Also survived by several nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law, extended family members and many dear friends.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary, Our Lady of the Snows Parish, 1955 E. Commerce Rd., Milford, Monday, August 22 at 10AM with Fr. Manuel J. Chircop officiating. Burial Rural Hill Cemetery, Northville. Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, Sunday 3-8 PM. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
