Obituary for Darsie Hamilton Gregg

Darsie Hamilton Gregg, of Milford, passed away on January 19th, 2021. She was 82 years old.

Daughter of the late Alfred and Margaret Hamilton, Darsie is survived by her children, James (Debbie) Gregg, Sarah H. (Jack Reinhardt) Gregg, Mary M. (Dan Kloiber) Gregg, and Rebecca H. Gregg; grandchildren, Curtis and Shelby Gregg, Amber (Brian) Hatfield, Jamie (Ryan) O’Neil, Darsie Mason, Alison Kloiber, Anna Kloiber, and Storm Gregg; great grandchildren, Ryleigh, Alysah, Charlee, Kayleigh, Colton, Dempsey, Irelynn, Darian, and Ry; sister, Sally Rice; many nieces and nephews; also many extended family and dear friends.

Darsie is preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, John Marshall Gregg.

Darsie was born in western Pennsylvania where she grew up on a large Angus cattle and Thoroughbred horse farm in Ligonier, PA. She was known for her love of animal husbandry and also her unending kindness towards animals and people, alike. She showed in competition both cattle and horses that she helped raised, and she also liked to fox hunt. These childhood experiences formed the core of who she was throughout her life, and she often enjoyed sharing her personal stories of joys and hardships involved with growing up on the farm.

She married John Marshall Gregg in 1959, and they had four children. Darsie stayed at home to raise their children while John worked to support the family. Following John’s career progression, they lived in several major metropolitan areas in the eastern US, including Washington, DC; Philadelphia, PA; Pittsburgh, PA; South Bend, IN; Chicago, IL and finally Milford, where she has lived since 1976.

Darsie is remembered by her children for her kind upbringing approach. A hallmark of her style was that she worked tirelessly to introduce and enable her children to engage in experiences that followed their own natural curiosities and interests. Once in Milford and when the children were older, she worked as a nursing aid at West Hickory Haven Nursing Center in Milford for a time, and then as a store clerk at K-mart for 10 years. She was also instrumental in helping her daughter, Sarah, raise her three girls (Darsie's grandchildren): Amber, Jamie and Darsie.

Darsie was an avid music fan, loving all kinds of diverse music, in particular but not limited to classical music. She attended all sorts of concerts during her life, including traveling to Europe on classical music trips. She also was a lover and aficionado of horticulture and gardening. She had quite a ‘green thumb’ and surrounded her home inside and out with plants that she adored.

Darsie will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
