Obituary for Daryl J. Clasen

Daryl John Clasen, of Commerce Township, Michigan, was a loving husband, devoted father, caring brother and uncle, loyal friend and faithful servant of the Lord.  He was born on April 19, 1955, to Orlan John Clasen and the late Marjorie Ruth (Pryor) Clasen from Roseville, Michigan. At age 65, Daryl John Clasen, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior. He suffered with colon cancer and treatments beginning in January 2019. He faced his most recent diagnosis and challenges with hope, a positive attitude and fortitude to conquer what lay ahead. He knew that regardless of the outcome he was a winner as he loved his Lord and knew that one day he would live in glory on high! He died on June 20, 2020, from cardiac arrest. It is no surprise that it was his heart that failed because it was the very thing he was known for, the way he loved. He loved big, he loved well, and he loved extravagantly – the same way he lived his life – up until his final day.

He married his beloved wife, Dawn, on November 28, 1987, whom he cherished very much. They walked together as a team in their Christian marriage, side by side, every step of the way.  Together they have a beautiful daughter, Margit Clasen. He loved being a father; his daughter was his pride and joy.  He is also survived by his father, Orlan J. Clasen (the late Marjorie); brother, Ron (the late Rachel); sisters, Patti (Bob) Radke and Randi (Brad) Vincent, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family members, many colleagues at CG Detroit as well as countless dear friends.

Daryl graduated from Carl Brablec/Roseville High School in 1973. He enjoyed 27 years of a successful sales career at Competition Graphics/CG Detroit providing creative support for racecar and other vehicle vinyl graphic designs. He was an amazing mentor and leader and was beloved by his colleagues.

Auto racing was his passion.  His racing journey began when he supported his best friend, Chuck Little, in his racing adventures as a young adult. Prior to his career at CG Detroit he worked at McLaren Engineering (BMW) and Roush Racing enjoying years on the road supporting their race teams.  During those years, he met many wonderful friends, colleagues and associates that are still a part of his life today.  At the age of 50, he became a certified racecar driver when his family surprised him with racing school with Skip Barber.

Daryl also had the voice of an angel and enjoyed 20+ years in his church choir at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Walled Lake, Michigan.

He loved cars, watching races (of any kind), boating, golfing, good cigars, bourbon and a fine red wine.  Most of all he loved spending time with his family (including his dogs/cats) and friends, going to church and worshiping and singing praises to his Lord. The depth and breadth of the impact he had on others in his life is far reaching. He will be greatly missed.

Private Visitation, by invitation only, will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, Milford.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 2040 S Commerce Rd, Walled Lake, MI 48390.
