Obituary for David Bastas

David Bastas, a longtime resident of Highland Twp., passed away in the loving care of his family on Sunday, September 23, 2018 after a 15 month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 56 years old.

Born April 9, 1962 in Detroit, Michigan, David was one of four children born to parents Carol (nee. Barton) and James Bastas. David and his siblings were raised on Cedar Island Lake in White Lake. While a student at Lakeland High School, David met the young Michele Clover—the two became sweethearts and have remained ever since. In 1985, the two were married and made their home together in White Lake. David and Michele were blessed by the births of their children, Christopher and Paige. The Bastas’ were true lake people who loved the water and their tiki boat they shared with their lake family on Duck Lake. David shared his love of the outdoors with his family by taking them camping across Michigan.

David was a soft-spoken man of few words. He was a hardworking man, dedicated to his work and providing for his family. He was caring and loving and found so many ways to demonstrate as a husband and father.

He enjoyed bowling, hockey, and on Tuesday nights in the summer, he golfed on the Mullet League at Hartland Glen. David cheered for the maize and blue and always supported the University of Michigan. His sarcasm and dry sense of humor punctuated his otherwise calm demeanor. David will forever remain a source of strength and love to all who knew him.

In addition to Michele, his beloved wife of 33 years, David is survived by son, Christopher Bastas (Libby Leon) and daughter, Paige (Joe) Bastas Hanley; parents, James and Carol Bastas; siblings, James (Audrey) Bastas, Julie (Kalani) Poaha and Paul Bastas ; in-laws, Phil (Ingrid) Clover, Paul (Elke) Clover, Dana (Tim) Schell, and Brent (Jenna) Clover; his nieces and nephews, Trevor, Cara, Joe, Sophia, Luke, Jerod, Brendan, Nicole, Sienna, and Lennon as well as a loving extended family and many dear friends.
