David E. Laho, a former longtime resident of Milford and owner of Laho Custom Building, passed away peacefully in his Novi home, surrounded by his family on August 28, 2016 at the age of 67.
Dave was born on July 3, 1949 in Southfield, Michigan, the second oldest of eight to Eric and Lillian Laho. Dave met the young Anita Lampinen when they were twenty one and sixteen — Dave was most insistent that he would “marry that girl” and his persistence paid off. On April 24, 1971, Dave and Anita were married. Following high school, Dave enlisted with the United States Navy and the young family made their home in South Carolina before moving to Milford in 1989, where he built his own home. With Anita, he lovingly raised four children and was an active role model and their biggest supporter. Family was the focus of his life and he enjoyed being “Papa” to his cherished grandchildren. He was a hard worker and in his twenties started his own business, Laho Custom Building that persevered and thrived through the years. Dave had a big heart and was always helping friends complete projects. He loved to hunt, golf, play softball and travel to casinos and will be missed and remembered for his big smile, kind heart and generosity.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ross Laho; parents, Eric Laho and Lillian Belttari Laho; brother, Alfred; sister, Gloria and is survived by his beloved wife of forty five years, Anita; son, Eric (Nancy) Laho; daughters, Candace (Kurt) Meister and Amber (Jonathan) DeGroat; grandchildren, Kendall and Avery Meister and Aiden Gallagher; brothers, Rick (Barb), Joe (Kathy); sisters, Beth (Michael) Bowen, Judy (Tim) Krey, Janet (the late Kevin) Simonson and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 7 PM, with visitation from 3 PM until the time of the service.
