Obituary for David John McCulloch

David John McCulloch
March 16, 1947 – July 25, 2021

David John McCulloch, of Commerce, formerly of Hudson, Ohio, Redford Township and Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on July 25th, 2021. Dave was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, who will be sorely missed by all.

Son of the late John and Lillian McCulloch, David is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Paula McCulloch; children, Ian (Michelle) McCulloch and Jodi McCulloch; grandchildren, Evan Reed and Paige Ellen McCulloch, Audrey Grace and Elyse Georgia Roberts; siblings, Shirley (Walter) Durak, Charles (Celia) McCulloch; sister-in-law, Linda (Michael) Fatt; brother-in-law, Jerry (Diane Royer) Solomon; and many extended family and friends.

Dave met his wife Paula in 1967 when they were co-workers at a department store in Detroit. After marrying in 1970, they welcomed two children, Ian and Jodi, and lived in Redford, Michigan until Dave’s job relocation to the Cleveland, Ohio area in 1991. The couple returned to their home state of Michigan to live in Commerce in 2015.

Loyal to the core, Dave enjoyed a successful 42-year career with Ecolab, and went on to serve as a Western Regional Manager for Ecolab’s Kay Chemical Division, receiving many awards and recognition over the years. He retired from the company in 2012. Dave was a dedicated leader who mentored many along the way.

One of Dave’s greatest gifts was his ability to fix almost anything. He was everyone’s handyman who would do anything to help his friends, neighbors, and family members with house repairs. He was a woodworker and shared his talents by building all sorts of wood items, and generously gifting them to grateful homeowners.

Dave was a University of Michigan Football fan and spent the last several years ushering at The Big House. He was also an avid golfer, and enjoyed spending time with his brothers-in-law on the course, as well as with his local men’s league in Commerce.

Dave enjoyed the finer things in life, like Lafayette coneys, Stroh’s beer, and red licorice. He loved crossword puzzles, reading mysteries, and tending to his lawn and landscaping. He was happy camping with family and his Jaycees group Up North, hiking in the Cuyahoga Valley, and traveling to visit his daughter and granddaughters in Denver. Everyone who knew him will miss “Teaser Dave’s” wit, his ‘dad jokes,’ and his smile that lit up the room.

A Memorial Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, MI 48381, on Saturday, July 31st, at 4 PM. Visitation will be from 2 PM until the time of service.
