Obituary for David P. Stephenson

David Parks Stephenson, a long time resident of Farmington Hills, went home to be with the Lord on June 19, 2017. He was 96 years old.

David was born on September 12, 1920 in Detroit, Michigan, one of eight children born to Earl Spencer Stephenson and Sarah Mae Harper. He grew up in Detroit and following High School at Wilber Wright, he became an apprentice model maker at General Motors, where he continued to work for 42 years, until he retired in 1986 as a supervisor in Die Engineering.

In 1943, he met and fell in love with Carol Ruth Klepser. They were married at Covenant Baptist Church on April 29, 1944. Within weeks, he was drafted into the United States Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Pensacola for two years.

Upon returning home from the war, he attended Lawrence Tech, and continued his work at General Motors. He and Carol were blessed with the births of four children. In his free time he could often be found carving wood, working in the yard or fishing. He was a life-long member of the Covenant Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, sang in the choir, and assisted with Men’s activities at the church. Most of all, David loved to spend time with his family and cherished time with his grandchildren.

He will be remembered for his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, his service to others, and his listening ear.

David is survived by his wife of 73 years, Carol; sons, Michael (Christine), John (Linda), Mark (Regina); daughter, Julie (Jonathon) Grant; grandchildren, Maeve (Kevin Williams), Caitlin, Caroline (Greg) Haugen, Michael, Johanna (Timothy) Sechrist, Benjamin (Lauren), Elizabeth (Dan) Walsh, Nathanael, Alyssa Grant, Evan Grant; great-grandchildren, Eleanor Haugen, Ellia, Luke, Molly, Liam and Colton Sechrist, Benjamin, Thomas; and many dear extended family members and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 10:30 AM, with visitation beginning at 9:30 AM. Burial to follow at Oakland Hills Cemetery, Novi.
