Obituary for David Thomas Burtch

David Thomas Burtch, a resident of Highland, passed away on January 10, 2019, after 10+ years of valiant effort from complications due to MDS. He was 87 years old.

David was born in Detroit on March 23, 1931 and attended Cass Tech High School. He was a patriot and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Ford Motor Company in 1986. David married his sweetheart Barbara (nee. Balke) in 1955 and was a devoted, loving husband for over 63 years. They made their home in Westland, MI, and raised seven children there. Then in 1991, Dave became a gentleman farmer in Croswell, MI. In 2006 they sold the farm, became ‘Snowbirds’ and enjoyed traveling across the great USA countless times in their 5th Wheel to visit their children in Virginia, South Carolina, California and wonderful friends at Crazy Horse Campground in Lake Havasu City. In 2012 they settled in Highland, MI.

In addition to Barbara, his beloved wife of 63 years, David is survived by their children, Julia (Dr. Brian) Dougherty, William (Kathleen) Burtch, Edward (Barbara) Burtch, Marjorie (Dr. Thomas) Kosic, Charles (Valerie) Burtch, Scott (Anong) Burtch and Susan (John) Altsman; grandchildren, Madeleine, Rebecca, Megan, Bradley, Daniel, Lilly and Ella; great-grandchildren, Blake and Leila as well as extended family and friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Melville and Jean Burtch and brothers, William Burtch and Delbert Burtch.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 23, 2019, 11:00 AM at the Milford Presbyterian Church, 238 N. Main St., Milford, MI. Interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan on March 22 at 1:30 PM.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Milford Presbyterian Church, to the MDS Foundation or the American Heart Association.
