Obituary for Dennis Ernest Legato

On July 25, 2018 Dennis was granted eternal peace after a painful battle with cancer. He was at home in Copemish, MI surrounded by love and family.

Dennis was born October 27, 1951 in Macomb County, MI. He was the oldest of 10 children. His family moved from East Detroit to White Lake, MI in 1968.

He was employed as a telephone technician for over 43 years in the Milford, Highland and White Lake areas.

Dennis enjoyed being outside anytime of the year. He was a volunteer football coach for the Milford Mustangs for many years. He loved riding his Harley, fishing, camping, gardening, music, being at the beach, and of course, having a good time with friends and family. Dennis loved a good story and he truly loved to laugh.

Dennis is survived by: his wife of 39 years Jamie (DeVine), and his dogs, Stewart Little and Babe Ruth; his children Dustin E. and Gina Legato, Danielle E. and Ryan Bruner, also his beloved grandchildren Valentina Legato and Ryan Bruner Jr.

Dennis is also survived by his father Robert Legato (Barbara Workman); brothers and sisters, Kim (Linda) Legato, Jayne (Don) Barnes, Terri (John) Crum, Dean (Judy) Legato, Beth (Calvin) Crum, Paul (Jennifer) Legato, Nancy (Erk) Rigsby, Tracie (John) Bailey, and Sueann (Mike) Marx.

Dennis was the fun loving uncle of 46 nieces and nephews, along with 34 great-nieces and nephews.

Dennis was welcomed into heaven by his mother Roberta Ann (Schlereth) Legato, his father and mother in law George C. and Virginia P. DeVine; brother in law's Michael DeVine and John Racketa, and so many others who have gone before him and welcomed him into their arms to eternal love and peace.

A celebration of Dennis's life will be held at a later date in the Milford, MI area.

Safely Home - Author unknown

I am home in heaven, dear ones;
Oh so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light.

All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in heaven at last.

Did you wonder how I so calmly
Trod the valley of the shade?
Oh, but Jesus' love illumined
Every dark and fearful glade.

And he came himself to meet me
In that way so hard to tread;
And with Jesus' arm to lean on,
Could I have one doubt or dread?

Then you must not grieve so sorely,
For I love you dearly still;
Try to look beyond earth's shadows,
Pray to trust our Father's will.

There is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand;
Do it now, while life remains,
You shall rest in Jesus' land.

When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you home;
Oh, the rapture of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come!
