Obituary for Dolores Catherine "Dolly" Abel

Dolores Catherine Dolly Abel, a native of Detroit and resident of Lexington, Michigan and Clearwater, Florida died on December 21, 2014 at the age of 84.

Born on June 14, 1930 in Detroit, the youngest of six children born to Jack and Jessie Scicluna Mifsud, Dolly grew up in Detroit where she was a graduate of St. Vincent DePaul High School. On June 2, 1951 she wed John Albert Abel in St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church and they made their home in Detroit where they were blessed with the births of three sons and three daughters. Dolly worked at raising her family and did accounting work at the University of Michigan Dearborn Campus on the old Henry Ford Estate. In 1982 she and John retired and for the last thirty-two years have enjoyed moving between their home in Clearwater, Florida and the family cottage on Lake Huron in Lexington, Michigan.

For her family and friends Dolly was always the instigator of fun and her sassy attitude and sense of humor made her a joy to be around. She loved trips to the casino, gambling, water gun fights, swimming and time spent on the water and at the cottage with family. She enjoyed spending summer school vacations with each of her grandchildren and taught them how to shuffle and play cards and to appreciate that a good card game required nickel bets. She played tennis up until a year ago and enjoyed her churches, Light of Christ in Clearwater, Florida and at St. Dennis in Lexington, Michigan. She was deeply devoted to her family and was a wonderful, loving, spunky woman that is going to be missed tremendously.

In addition to John, her beloved husband of over sixty-three years, she leaves children, Steve (Debbie) Abel, John M. Abel, Debbie (Mike) Raymo, Diane Abel (John Woychowski), Doreen (the late Reid) Bycraft, Robert (Kim) Abel; grandchildren, Stephanie (Pat) Marchionda, John Abel, Kim Abel, Mark (Marissa) Raymo, James (Kristen) Raymo, Danielle (Bryan) Williams, Jennifer Williams, Christina (Trevor) Monfette, Natalie and Matthew Bycraft, Ashley, Michael, and Nicholas Abel; great grandchildren, Geniveve Marchionda, Logan Raymo, and Theodore Monfette; brother-in-law, Vincent (Nin) Abel; sisters-in-law, Carrie Sutton and Jessie Butterworth and many dear friends.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, on Tuesday, December 23, from 3-9PM with a Vigil Service at 7PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, 1955 E. Commerce Rd., Milford, on Wednesday, December 24, at 10AM with Msgr. John Budde officiating.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Charles A. Maine Scholarship Fund, 3577 West 13 Mile Road, Ste. 101, Royal Oak, MI 48073.
