Obituary for Donald Dennis Fraser

Donald Dennis Fraser, a long time resident of Milford, died on January 29, 2015 after suffering a stroke three weeks ago. He was 72 years old. Born in Detroit on February 28, 1942, the son of Monroe and Roberta (Vezinaw) Fraser, Don grew up in Northville where he was a 1960 graduate of Northville High School. He later attended Schoolcraft Community College where he majored in mathematics and machining. It was the beginning of a long career as a master toolmaker. He retired from General Motors in 2008.

Don was a master gardener, proud member of the Milford Garden Club, and loved the out-of-doors and his home on Commerce Road where he put his energies into beautiful flower beds to which he added over one hundred flats of flowers each year. He was friend to the Wild Turkeys that were frequent visitors to his yard and enjoyed his feline companions Lance the Black and Porsha, for whom he bought many gifts-most recently neckties! Don and his wife Maryann were members of the Hippopotamus Club and enjoyed traveling for the yearly conventions. Don was well known for his participation in the Milford parades for which he wore his Hippopotamus costume. Don will forever be remembered for the way he loved jumping into a new project or taking up a new talentthe inspirations for which often came from frequent on-line auction acquisitions. He took up cake decorating, pottery, piano, guitar, flight school, sewing, baking and enjoyed many wonderful cooking adventures.

He is survived by his wife, Maryann Fraser, sons, Dean (Mary) and Scott (Erica), grandchildren, Kenzie, Kelsi, Aileana and Liam, and a brother, Terry (Phyllis). He was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Roberta Fraser, and a wife, Dean and Scotts mother, Linda Fraser, in 2002.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, on Wednesday, February 4, at 12 Noon with the Rev. Dr. Gary Evans officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Milford. Friends may visit on Tuesday, February 3, from 3-9PM and on Wednesday from 11AM until the time of service. Memorials may be made in his name to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Detroit. For further information please phone 248-684-6645.
