Obituary for Donald R. Carlock

Donald R. Carlock, a longtime resident of Milford, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2013 at the age of 71.

Born December 12, 1941 in Pontiac, Michigan, Don was the only son born to parents Olga (nee. Stern) and John Carlock. At about the age of 10, Don moved with his mother from Illinois to the longtime family home in Milford.

His entire working career was spent as a GM employee at the Proving Grounds in Milford. He was a test driver for GM, and his affection for cars carried over to his personal life as he proudly enjoyed owning what many referred to as the newest, coolest cars. Every vehicle Don ever owned was meticulously maintained, always spotless and looking new. Don retired from GM on August 30, 1991.

Don adored his mother, Olga. They enjoyed traveling together, taking many trips, and visiting numerous places. Both Don and his mother each maintained a get-away home in Prudenville, Michigan, near Houghton Lake.

While Don was an only child, his love of animals brought some special members into the family, as both he and his mother had toy poodles. Loving them like a family member, both Penny, and later, Heidi, brought much joy into his life. In addition to his love for animals, Don loved music. He enjoyed listening especially to Eric Clapton.

As a dedicated son, Don took very good care of his mother and was her main care giver throughout her illness. Olga, an Alzheimers patient, passed away about 13 years ago.

Don was well-known and well-liked in the community He was always thoughtful, compassionate, considerate, and gave out far more than he ever asked in return. Loved by many, he will be sorely missed by everyone whose life he touched.

A Funeral Service will be held at First Baptist Church, 133 Detroit Street, Milford, on Thursday, November 7, at 11AM, Pastor Steve Swayze officiating. Burial will follow at Milford Memorial Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3 - 8PM. For further information please phone 248-684-6645.
