Obituary for Donald V. Fitzgerald

Donald Vincent Fitzgerald, a longtime resident of Milford, died peacefully on March 30, 2020. He was 95 years old.

Don was born on December 7, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan, one of eight children born to Arthur and Florence (nee. Wall) Fitzgerald. Following his service in Korea with the United States Army, Don married the “girl across the street”, Mary Sinagra, and together raised five children. He enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking, boating, gardening, camping, traveling, hiking trails in metro-parks and playing his grand piano. He enjoyed do-it-yourself projects and built two intricate dollhouses. Don was a gracious host and enjoyed opportunities to welcome and entertain family and friends in his home for parties and holidays. 

He will be missed by many, most of all his children, Eileen (David) Blough, Kathleen Sharland, Donald Thomas (Carol) Fitzgerald, Colleen (Michael Coger) Fitzgerald and Barbara (David) Caswell; his grandchildren, Cheryl (Mark) Dykstra, Joseph (Tracy) Blough, Kelly (Shaun) Welchko, Gary (Amber Cox) Sharland, Matthew (Kristin) Sharland, Meghan Fitzgerald, Alexandria “Lexie” (Nicholas) Rompa, Andy (Chrissie) Coger, Daniel (Jessica) Caswell, Gregory Caswell, Robert (Kelli) Caswell; his great-grandchildren, Jeremia, Luke, Noah and Abigail Blough, Mitchell, David and Hailey Henschel, Katelyn and Conner Welchko, Mackenzie and Fitzgerald Caswell, Brielle Sharland; sister, Marjorie Fitzgerald; sisters-in-law, Catherine (Russ) Delong and Ida Fitzgerald as well as many extended family members and many dear friends, including his canine companion, Bailey.


He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary, his six brothers, Arthur (Ruth), Robert (Dorothy), Harold, Richard (Adelaide), Gerald, Ralph (Esther) Fitzgerald and his parents.

Services were held privately.
