Donald Wayne Lance, 74, of Milford, passed away peacefully May 11th following a short illness.
Don was born on January 5, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Hershel and Cora Evelyn (Routen) Lance. When he was a baby, his family moved to Lynnville, Kentucky where Don spent his childhood. At the age of 15, the family moved back to the Detroit area and eventually settled in Ferndale, Michigan. Don began attending Highland Park High School. It was there that he met the love of his life, Judith Smiley. Don and Judy were married on October 13, 1960.
In 1962, Don hired into Ford Motor Company, starting at the Rouge plant and moving to the Wixom Assembly plant in 1963, where he remained until his 2002 retirement. Don enjoyed traveling with his wife, visiting every state except Hawaii, taking rides on his Harley Davidson Motorcycle, and spending time with his family. He could frequently be found tinkering in the garage.
Don is survived by his children, Vicki (Mark) Goenner and David Lance, grandchildren, Shannon (Mark) Schmidlin, Laura (Ryan) Gillespie, Alyssa Goenner, Douglas Lance and ShaeLynne Lance, great-grandchildren Avery, Lucas and soon to be born, Kailey. He is also survived by his brother Richard (Treva) Lance and many beloved brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Don was preceded in death by his loving wife, Judy and granddaughter, Ashley Ann Shepherd.
