Obituary for Doris Ann Zinger

Doris Ann Zinger, a former longtime resident of Dearborn Heights, passed away on August 14, 2012.

Doris was born on September 28, 1922 in Stoke-on-Trent, England, the daughter of Thomas and Ada Booth, and grew up in England. She worked in the Johnson Bros. factory, which was converted to manufacture bombs during WWII. It was during the war that she met U.S. Army soldier, Russell Zinger, while attending a Tea dance. They fell in love and married in England on April 7, 1945.

When they returned to the States, they made their home on Tireman in Detroit, and later moved to Dearborn Heights, where they lived for over fifty years and were founding members of St. Anselm Parish. In their years together they were blessed by the births of their children, Kerry, Keith, Louise and Lisa. In 2011 they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.

Throughout the years, Doris stayed in touch with her friends in England. She loved to write and always sent a wonderful Christmas card. She was very active with her church, especially in raising monies for those in need, and with Boy Scouts and Brownies as she raised her children. She enjoyed entertaining at her home and was a great homemaker, a wonderful cook and baker, kept an impeccably clean home, and was a great laundress-she ironed everything. She loved babies and children and always had a piece of candy or money at the ready to put into their hands.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Russell James Zinger, in 2011.
She is survived by sons, Kerry (the late Juanita) Zinger and Keith Zinger; daughters, Louise Zinger and Lisa (Cary) Zinger Wallace; grandchildren, Kyle Zinger, Eva Wallace, Kandis Pagonas, her friend and caregiver, Mary Noel, and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Anselm Catholic Church, 17650 West Outer Drive, on Monday, August 20, at 10:30AM with Monsignor James A. Moloney officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield. Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty Street, Milford, on Sunday, August 19, 2-7PM, with a Rosary at 4PM. Memorials may be made in her name to the Alzheimers Association. For further information please phone 248-684-6645.
