Douglas R. AuBuchon, a resident of Walled Lake, died on Thursday, November 13, 2008 in the presence of his loving family at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He was 64 years old. Born in Detroit on September 27, 1944, the son of Robert & Margaret Rose AuBuchon, Doug grew up in Redford and graduated from St. Agatha High School in 1962. Shortly following graduation he was drafted into the United States Army and served his country honorably in Korea. Upon his return home from service, he began his college studies at Michigan State University and later transferred to Oakland Community College where he completed his degree in Landscape Technology. It was at OCC where he first met Debbe Howell, the love of his life. Doug & Debbe married on October 18, 1974 and made their family home in Davisburg to begin their new lives as husband & wife. The AuBuchons were soon blessed with the births of their daughters, Megan and Beth and son, Nathan and remained in Davisburg to raise their family before moving to their current home in Walled Lake. For the past twenty-eight years, Doug has taken great pride in his career as a master electrician with Oakland Countys Road Commission. He was best known as an honest man that infinitely gave of himself to help others. He had a wonderful sense of humor, loved gardening and enjoyed sports, especially hockey; a game in which he was able to guide and share along with his son. At the heart of all matters was Dougs love for his family and close camaraderie with friends. Never forgetting the Big Kid within himself, his friendly nature and fun personality earned him the quick adoration of his grandchildren. He was especially grateful for the many fond memories of family trips to Manistee Lake and had just begun to enjoy the new cottage on Sanford Lake in Midland before his recent treatment & hospitalization.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Margaret AuBuchon and father-in-law, Tom Howell. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Debbe (nee Howell); loving children, Megan (Ron) Ralko, Beth (Tom) Tardiff, Nathan AuBuchon; grandchildren, Avery, Tyler, Aidan, Colton, Hannah; sister, Joan (James) Shilson; brothers, Tom (the late Sue), Denny (Dianna), Al (Sherry); mother-in-law, Grace Howell; sisters-in-law, Kathy (Glen) Lindsay, Kim (Jim) Dye, Cindy (David) Hage; numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
