Duane David Stibal of CommerceTwp., MI passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on June 27, 2021 at the age of 58.
He was born in Dearborn, Michigan on May 5, 1963, the fifth child of six, to parents Roy and Shirley (nee Hoffer) Stibal. Duane and his siblings were raised in Taylor, Michigan.
He worked full time while attending college and graduated from Western Michigan University in 1988 with a degree in electrical engineering. Duane spent his 31 year career as an engineer, working for various automotive and aviation companies.
A true car lover, at the age of 16, Duane worked hard to be able to buy his first car, a 1969 Mach1 Mustang. He rebuilt the engine and most of the rest of the car as well.
He was a devoted husband and father and an active and avid outdoorsman. Duane competed in triathlons until his children were born. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, loved to snow ski and taught his children the sport when they were young, to later have them teach him to snowboard. Duane was a football, baseball and lacrosse coach when his sons, Jack and Michael, were active in sports.
In addition to his family, Duane enjoyed the companionship of his beloved Labrador retrievers, including Max 1, who shared the first 15 years of marriage with Duane and Tracy followed by ‘sibling labs’, Max and Rosie.
Diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in November of 2019, and given a grim 3 to 6 months prognosis, Duane was determined to live his life to the fullest. He defied the odds given, battling the disease and making precious memories for 19 months.
