Obituary for Earl Edward Strnad

Earl was born in Munden, Kansas, the eldest child of George and Jessie (Hudson) Strnad. After the Dust Bowl, the family moved to Durango, Colorado, where they started their own businesses.

The Strnad family immigrated to the United States in 1864 from the area near Velim, in what is now the Czech Republic. The Hudson Family came to the United States at least 35 years prior to the American Revolution. At the age of 17, Earl joined the US Navy, serving through the remainder of WWII, after which, he attended school at Case Western for Engineering.

After moving to Detroit, MI, he met and married Agnes VanGaalen in 1952. Earl also studied music, conducting piano, and voice, at Wayne State University to name one, among other schools for an additional degree in Music. Earl also taught Music classes part time at Macomb Community College.

In 1955, their son Ronald Richard was born. Earl was an avid reader of books, with a substantial personal library, and an avid listener of music recordings and attending live concerts, especially at the DSO, Jazz Concerts, and Choir Concerts. Earl also
loved to hike and camp with his family. His primary occupation was working in multiple churches as the music director, and teaching private piano and vocal students, including his son. His final position as music director was at Milford Presbyterian Church, from approximately 1969 until his retirement.

Outside of his hobbies of cooking and gardening, his greatest joy was his family including his Son, Ron, daughter-in-law, Barbara, and grandsons, Christopher and Nathan.
