Obituary for Edna Drusilla Bondie

Edna Drusilla Bondie, formerly of South Lyon, Milford and Atlanta Michigan, died on May 24, 2011. She was 92 years old. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on February 26, 1919, she was the daughter of William and Mary Drusilla Savage Greer who moved their family to Detroit, Michigan when Edna was eight years old. She graduated from MacKenzie High School in Detroit and following business school she began her work as a telephone operator with Michigan Bell.
Edna married Melvin Bondie on July 28, 1940, and over the years they made their homes in South Lyon, Milford, and later Romeo before moving to Atlanta, Michigan in 1989.

Edna and her husband were members of the Michigan Gladiola Society. She was also a member of the Atlanta and Commerce Chapters of Eastern Star and was an active member of the South Lyon Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen (James) Penhollow of Milford and Jane (Wayne) Homick of Riverview, Florida. Also surviving are her sister-in-law Evelyn Lang of Minnesota, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin and by a son, Edward Nelson Bondie. A host of dear friends join with her family in mourning her death and giving thanks to God for her life among them.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, on Friday, May 27, at 11AM, with Pastor Randy Weaks officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Brighton. Friends may visit Thursday 3-8PM. Memorials may be made in her name to Odyssey Hospice. For further information please phone 248-684-6645.
