Obituary for Edward "Mac" Gerald McFarland

Edward “Mac” Gerald McFarland, a longtime resident of Milford, MI, died suddenly in the early morning hours of Saturday, October 24, 2020. He was 75 years old.

For those that knew him well, they’ll dearly miss the way that he made them feel when they were together. His compassion and concern for others led him to always strive to be of help and service to friends, family and acquaintances. He was humbly selfless and nearly universally loved.

Mac was quick with a wave or a hug, always had a smile to share and a twinkle in his eye. He was an inspiration to all who knew him and a fixture in his hometown of Milford.

Mac was a loving, collaborative and committed partner to his beloved wife Mary for more than 44-years. In their mutual support and deep love for each other the descriptive terms “Mac-and-Mary” or “Jerry-and-Mary” were nearly singular. They were inseparable in Life.

His children Wade, Erin and David (Susan) and grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life and some of his fondest memories were the “10th Birthday” trips with his talented grandson River and three amazing granddaughters - Emily, Zara and Maria.

Mac was committed to family - wanting the best for them in all things and striving to bring them togetherness and happiness. It was his gift and his joy.

As a member of the United States Marine Corp he proudly served his country on the field of combat in Vietnam and wore the Purple Heart. Once a Marine Always a Marine, he continued to support his fellow veterans and their cause through the remainder of his life. Semper Fi.

In his 30+ year career in Safety Research and Development at the GM Proving Grounds, he contributed greatly to his company and most importantly to his colleagues. Always striving to grow, he attended night classes at Lawrence Technological University in pursuit of his Engineering degree.

Mac had a passion for TV and film and brought joy to many in the community as the owner/operator of the successful South Lyon Cinema – operating it as a family business.

He was active in his church and as a tireless supporter of others he volunteered for Meals-on-Wheels, Habitat for Humanity and other worthy causes.
